The salt (sodium) content in food increases the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, British Medical Journal in 1986.The effect sucrose and salt have on your human body and your life The only thing that sucrose and salt have in common is that they go well with a wide variety of different foods. Unfortunately, both are also difficult to consume in moderation. Even if you avoid sugary sweets and salty snacks, both salt and sucrose can find their way into your diet as part of the recipes you make. What kind of harm can sucrose and salt do to your body? These are just some of the reasons why you really should try to minimize your intake.
Too much salt raises blood pressure
Salt is the average American's main source of sodium, a dietary mineral that the human body requires. Sodium helps with muscle functionality and maintains fluid stability in your human body. However, if your kidneys can't keep up with the amount of sodium you consume, your body retains water to help dilute it.
Why is this bad? A significant part of this fluid is incorporated into the blood vessels, which increases the blood volume and creates more pressure in the vessels. Increased blood pressure also increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Excess sodium causes kidney disease
High blood pressure is not the only problem caused by the stress that excess sodium puts on the kidneys. Processing all that sodium can also damage them, resulting in a loss of functionality. A diet high in sodium can also make you more prone to kidney stones.
Too much sucrose can lead to liver disease
Once you ingest sucrose, your body breaks it down into fructose and glucose. Glucose is naturally in your human body, just like in any other living thing. Fructose, however, is not produced by your human body. All the fructose you eat must be processed by your liver. And if the liver is overworked, it turns excess fructose into fat. This can lead to a condition called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which can also lead to liver cancer.
Sucrose and insulin resistance
Insulin is a hormone produced by the human body and is important in processing glucose. It's what makes it possible for glucose in the bloodstream to enter cells so they can use it for energy. However, on a high sucrose diet, insulin is not as positive as it should be. Your cells create a kind of resistance and therefore your human body requires more to function. This increasing insulin resistance is the main cause of pathologies such as diabetes and cardiovascular pathologies.
Trying to minimize salt or sucrose is difficult! However, this can prevent serious harm to your human body. Be sure to check the nutritional facts of everything you eat and keep your salt and sucrose intake to a minimum. The effect on your health will be worth the effort.
